Whether it is across the country to Indio, California, or a forty five minute train ride into the Big Apple, we love to travel. With that being said, we recently took an impromptu trip to the Upper West Side, to go on what we like to call a "mini food tour." Our first stop after taking a cab from Grand Central to the UWS was Spice, a thai restaurant we found via the amazing OpenTable. Check out our pics!
To start, we ordered a few appetizers, including Vegetable (bottom right) and Steamed (top left and right) Dumplings, as well as Crispy Spring Rolls. The dumplings were an A+. They were super light and filling, the way an appetizer should be. The Crispy Spring Rolls were lovely as well and the dipping sauce was to die for, OMG.
For an entree, we each chose a different item on the menu. Our favorite had to be the Chicken Pad Thai pictured in front and the Sticky Rice in back. Here's a 3girls tip for ya: on cheat day ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS order Sticky Rice over Brown Rice. Splurge a little, it's fun!
One thing we love about the Upper West Side is that it has a completely different vibe than the fast-paced Times Square and Midtown. The UWS is filled with families enjoying the outdoors on the weekends. We were able to enjoy our meal outside at Spice and had a great time admiring the street fair taking place around us. We really hit the jackpot on this food tour!
Yes, we went to Levain Bakery, and yes, it was life-changing. Walking down to the bakery, we had no idea what a small space it was; and we were surprised to see such a long line outside of the shop. Luckily, we only had to wait twenty minutes (we were expecting an hour haha!) to get their famous cookies and baked goods.
Levain recently started offering a CHOCOLATE BRIOCHE. We repeat a CHOCOLATE BRIOCHE. When we heard about it on Insta, we immediately knew we had to go in to try one. The brioche is a fresh loaf with melted milk chocolate in the center. It tasted like heaven and we still can't believe we got to eat such a thing.
And now for the cookies...we were left speechless when taking our first bite into these babies. We cannot think of many words to describe them because they were just THAT GOOD. They had the perfect ratio of nuts to chocolate. The cookies are crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside, with tons of chocolate chips. We've eaten a lot of chocolate chip cookies in our lives, but we must say that these are the greatest ones we've ever had. JUST LOOK AT THEM!
Levain Bakery is worth the wait, take our word for it. The cookies come out piping hot out of the oven when purchased and are fresh as can be. The bakery really is a "Little Piece of Cookie Heaven" and hope you all can taste their greatness at least once in your lives.
And that's a wrap on our review of the Upper West Side. Hope you all enjoyed it, talk soon!
