Recently we had the oppurtunity to visit Boqueria's beautiful UES location. After spending large amounts of time in various parts of Spain, we had high expectations for this tapas brand.
We loved the decor and the high seated tables throughout the restaurant. Our waiter immediately came to the table and served us two of Boqueria's most popular beverages: Left was cherry flavored and right was lemon flavored.
We see why they're so popular- we loved their flavors and freshness. We couldn't help but get seconds. After hearing our waiter's suggestions (who had extensive knowledge of the dishes), we placed our order.
First, the classic croquettes arrived. Half were mushroom with truffle aioli, and half were with "jamón Serrano". These were as magnificent as the many "croquetas" we've had in Spain and other Latin American parts of the world, such as Miami. Another impressive feat about these croquettes was they are made fresh in house.
Next, came the patatas bravas. Another favorite from our travels throughout Spain, the garlic aioli brought this dish to the next level. Just like the croquettes, this dish was authentic and so delicious.
Pictured above is the pinxto Morunos, lamb skewers with pickled scallots on bread. We had never tried anything like this at a tapas place before; nevertheless, we loved it. So rich in flavor and delicious.
The Gambas al Alijo, shrimp with garlic and pepper, were SO good, to say in simple terms. Although the 3girls are generally not huge seafood people, we must say the shrimp was quite tasty.
The Cojundo was a dish we'd never tried before. It was bread with chorizo and quail eggs. Needless to say, this combination was outstanding- definitely one of our favorite dishes here and now at Spanish food restaurants in general.
Our last entree was the paella. It had meats like chorizo and chicken as well as the delicious vegetable of spinach. Like everything thus far, the paella was as well done as the paella in Spain.
Our dessert was also on par with the entrees and appetizers. We had Nutella stuffed churros, and they were everything you could've dreamed of (and more!)
Overall, dining at Boqueria was a fabulous experience. It felt like being in Spain without having to travel. We adored every bite we took and hope to be back soon. We highly recommend dining here for an authentic, scrumptious meal. Be sure to check out their locations throughout NYC on the UES, Flatiron, and Soho and their location in Washington, DC!
